Memorial Day - Last Year

This Memorial Day weekend we're hanging around at home.  It's nice and relaxing and relatively tick-free.

Last year we went camping at Dexter Acres.

Here's some pics I FINALLY found in a disposable camera just not too long ago.

That's Brandy with Bailey, she belongs to Dave and Lynn.  They only got into one minor argument all weekend, which I thought was pretty good for two old dogs set in their ways.

Of course, I had to get the "walking down the trail together" shot.  It's kinda my signature.  :)

MUSH!

Ok, finally, here it is.

This past February, my friend Cindy and I took a trip to Bayfield to go mushing.  Lilly and Quinn (her dog) came with us for the road trip.

When we arrived in Bayfield, we actually got there much earlier than we expected.  So, we decided to take a little drive to the lake shore and let the dogs run around.

Quinn, for reasons known only to him, got the insane idea to jump off this ice shelf and into the frigid water.  Fortunately, he was eventually able to claw his way out.

Anybody know knows me, knows how overprotective and overly cautious I tend to be with my dogs.  This really had my heart pumping.  It was so cold that the water immediately formed icicles on his coat.

The whole area was really very pretty.

And of course, the dogs went right back to playing.

When we got to Wolfsong, it was time to get dressed and head out to meet the dogs.

And learn how to steer the sled.

Everybody got a little something to eat for extra energy.

We got everybody harnessed and ready to run.

And off we went.

By the time we got back, I was exhausted...

And so were the dogs.

We got everybody's harnesses off.

And the dogs headed back to the yard.

The next morning there was a beautiful Lake Superior sunrise just outside our hotel window.

Sunrise on the Superior

That's something I don't think I could ever tire of.

On our way home, we stopped for a quick ski on Lake Superior.  That's right... I actually went skiing on the lake.  I'm not sure I can even believe it, to tell you the truth.

Awwww

The dogs loved it, too.

Then, we set off for the long drive home.

Are we there yet?

Forget Mushing (for now), let's RALLY!

Wow, it's really been a long time since I've posted anything on here.  That's what college does to you.  It makes you flippin' crazy!

Anyway, Lilly and I have thrown our hats in the Rally ring!  We will be showing for the first time on June 12th and 13th.  I'm so excited!  Well... excited and nervous.  I'm confident we can pull it off, I'm just unsure of how Lilly will react to such a strange place.  Usually, when we're in a busy place, she does a good job focusing on me to tell her what to do - hopefully that will work to our advantage.

Here's a quick video of us doing a 'run thru' at a local park (our free training grounds).  Speaking of our free training grounds, we really need to get our butts back out there and keep practicing!  The only thing I'm still worried about are her 'finishes'... and my inability to properly read signs and navigate a course - but that's a whole other issue.  And I don't want to talk about it.  :)

Notice Lilly's lovely right turns.  Well, leave it to me to ruin such a lovely thing.  I taught her "back", and now we have a lagging problem.  At the Oshkosh dog show I bought a really nice rabbit fur squeeky - I'm hoping that will help us get things back in order.

Lilly has pretty well caught on to the "stand", walk around - which is so awesome for her!

Enjoy this lovely weather!  I'm headed back to the dog show to watch!
